Horror fans, guess what? Most of you will agree that this is great news: Paramount Pictures says it will move ahead with yet another installment in the wildly popular Paramormal Activity movie franchise! Yep, look for Paranormal Activity 4 to be out later this year.
Like the previous films, Paranormal Activity will likely open on or around Halloween weekend, letting moviegoers get a good scare around the spooky holiday. My question is, are they wearing this whole series out?I really, really liked the original Paranormal Activity movie. The second installment scared the daylights out of me too (maybe even more than the original - I honestly cannot see an automatic pool cleaner without shivering). Paranormal Activity 3 was also scary enough, though I began to wonder if maybe I was getting too 'used' to the format for the films.
As I left the theater after PA3, I actually mentioned to my friend that I almost hoped they would stop with this one. Leave it be. You've done what seems to be almost impossible these days: created three films in one franchise that were all really, really solid. Why ruin a good thing?
Here's what we know at the moment: Paranormal Activity 4 is happening and it's probably coming out around Halloween 2012. That's about it. Anyone surprised? Didn't think so. We knew very little about each of the previous films until they opened. I'm most curious to see whether this one actually delve deeper into the history of the family or move ahead with new horrors for their kids and such. I'm not sure which would be better, honestly.
Okay horror fans, this one is on you: Do you think Paranormal Activity 4 is a good idea? Can the filmmakers continue to produce such high-quality horror without overstaying a welcome?
