Judd Apatow, Happy Birthday sir! Thank you for the years of laughs. I'm a huge fan and yes, if this sounds like an outright fan letter, it is. In honor of Mr. Apatow's 44th birthday today, I thought I'd take a quick look at some of my favorite Apatow movies. And really, when you look at all of the great movies he's done in (what I think is) a relatively short amount of time, it's even more impressive.
If you backed me into a corner and told me I absolutely could ONLY name one best Judd Apatow movie, after some protest, I'd probably tell you that Knocked Up is my absolute favorite. I don't own many movies (I'm cheap that way), but I own this one.
Judd Apatow directed, produced and wrote the script for this hilarious rom-com starring Katherine Heigl, Seth Rogen, Paul Rudd and so many other great cast members I don't have time to list them all. If you haven't seen this one in a while, it's worth a trip down memory lane.
Other favorites (and really, if I'm being perfectly honest I have a LOT of Apatow favorites) include Superbad, The 40 Year Old Virgin and Forgetting Sarah Marshall. And then there's (in my opinion) one of the funniest films ever: Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy! Am I the only one screaming for an Anchorman sequel? Didn't think so.
And yes, while I know this is a blog about movies, I could never forgive myself if I didn't mention my great affection for Freaks and Geeks. I never, ever get tired of watching this show. It's a crime that we only got 12 episodes (well, technically 18 but we only saw 12 when the show aired). There's a reason this show has a cult following. If you haven't checked it out, you must. I fell in love with Jason Segel thanks to Freaks and Geeks.
So again, Happy Happy Birthday Judd Apatow! I'm looking forward to years of more laughter. Okay movie fans, I'm backing you into a proverbial corner: If you had to choose, what's your favorite Judd Apatow film?
