TRAILER REVIEW
Take My Money Again and Let Me Scream, Again
"My Soul to Take" is Wes Craven, the very successful horror movie maker's, latest spooky flick.
From the story lines put out by the producers: "In the sleepy town of Riverton, legend tells of a serial killer who swore he would return to murder the seven children born the night he died. "
Dead serial killer after children? What does this reminds me of? Answer: "A Nightmare on Elm Street," one of Wes Craven's craven money makers.
Producers' story lines continues: "16 years later, people are disappearing again. Has the psychopath been reincarnated as one of the seven teens,."
"Scream"? A psychopathic young person killing young people? Another craven money making series.
Continues, the producers' story lines: "Or did he survive the night he was left for dead? Only one of the kids knows the answer. Adam "Bug" Heller (Max Thieriot) was supposed to die on the bloody night his father went insane. Unaware of his dad's terrifying crimes, he has been plagued by nightmares (NIGHTMARES!) since he was a baby. (Was he a SCREAMing baby?) But if Bug hopes to save his friends from the monster that's returned, he must face an evil..."
The kid facing evil, huh? In the craven money making horror series, "The Hills Have Eyes," wasn't that about facing evil?
The producers' story lines conclude with: "that won't rest... until it finishes the job it began the day he was born."
Yeah! The day Craven was born again, the day he discovered the golden formula for grinding out horror series, he swore not to rest until he has grinded out every last one that he can in a life time, right? Probably. I am not a movie reviewer who tries in fact or by his imagination to interview the talent. I watch trailers and post my opinions of the trailers. Wes Craven could be a great artist lurking inside his money vault, and it could be his producers, in this case Universal, screaming at him to give them more of the stuff that he has given them. And if he is, and they are doing what money folks do, suppress art for the sake of dough, that is not my concern here. These posts are all about the trailers. The trailer of the movie, "My Soul To Take," is the topic of this post.
Now for my take on the trailer -- The movie's in 3-D! Expect knives to be plunged from the screen into the gut of the audience, or something, or somethings, to jump out at the viewer's face. So much for the 3-D.
The trailer passes inspection, will help to bring the teen Friday night / Saturday night audience, that is going to the cineplex, anyway, to the seats of the theater, with the screen, showing this scream flick.
