You hit on the one thing I love most about Quentin Tarantino's films -- the language. He has a knack for working, as you say, "realistic dialogue in outlandish situations." Some of the best scenes in "Reservoir Dogs" and "Pulp Fiction" and "Inglourious Basterds" are the ones where no action is happening; it's just a few people shooting the breeze, arguing about the sinfulness of a foot massage or what "Like a Virgin" is really about.
