I was a little  late to the "Spinal Tap" game- the first I heard of the fake band  was when "Spinal Tap" made a guest appearance on  "The Simpson's" in 1992.   I was a little stoned at the time the episode aired and was fortunate enough to see the episode twice in one night due to our local station, which was entirely helpful to my concentration at the time. I absolutely loved it!

For some reason, I waited until now to watch the actual "This is Spinal Tap" movie and I have to say that "Spinal Tap" is perhaps among the best mockumentaries that I have ever had the privilege to see. (Click here to read about the star of Spinal Tap and his ass-kicking brains on Jeopardy) The movie was filmed in 1984, and reminds me of Van Halen circa 1984 because of the oh-so-sexy spandex attire and attitude of both Eddie Van Halen and David Lee Roth. Surprisingly missing from the film, however, were the copious amounts of drugs that I imagine all of the hair-bands and their wayward members were doing from that era. I can only hope that I saw an edited version of the movie.

As I watched "This is Spinal Tap", I couldn't help but notice some of the more memorable clips and quotes from the film and would love to share them with you:

From the song: "Big Bottom"- "The looser the waistband, the quicker the quicksand". Since this was filmed in 1984, I seriously have to wonder if this song was Sir Mix-a-Lot's inspiration for, "I like Big Butts", which definitely preceded both J-Lo and Beyonce.

In another scene with a record company executive: Your album is being boycotted by K-Mart and Sears because of the album cover.
"Spinal Tap" was of course filmed long  before Walmart and their censorship heyday of today.

In another scene where the guitarist is showing his amps: Where can you go from 10 on your guitar? (The answer being 11 of course on his specialty amps).

Quoted by the Security Woman at the Airport after a beep at the guitarist's crotch: Do you have any artificial plates or limbs?

And in one of the final scenes: It's like I'm going to a national park to preserve that moose.

That, in case you are curious, which I am sure you are, is a quote from one of the band members after being asked what it's like to perform on stage. I'm not sure about that quote, personally, because it sounds more than a little Canadian to me.
