Woody Allen, in Cannes, at the famous film festival, gave an interview to France's 24 on his new film, "You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger" In the interview he speaks about themes in his films, and about the nature of life and of death.

He discusses the importance of the artistic struggle for meaning in a world without meaning, and the role of , and the need for magical thinking in people's lives. He speaks of his driving need to continue to work. Work is preferred over idleness. He suggests that idleness is harmful because it gives the artists too much time to think about the meaninglessness of life. He suggests that work keeps the artist busy and sane, by giving the artist a purpose, which is to work, to create his art.
