Still not as great as the first installment, but entertaining
And yes, we saw it. What follows is my review of the movie: The good, the bad and the just plain silly. My strong suggestion: Go into MIB 3 knowing you just want to have fun, and you won't be disappointed.
I saw Men in Black III on Memorial Day with three other people. Here's the breakdown: two of us liked it, one of us didn't hate it but didn't love it either and one of us absolutely loathed it. Not sure how much help that is as far as a review, but it's kind of in line with what many of the nation's top movie critics thought.
First, the good: Men in Black III is better than Men in Black II. Personally, I thought MIB 2 was one of the worst movies I've ever seen -- and after having so much fun with the original film, it was a bitter disappointment. This new MIB is witty and clever. Another huge plus: Josh Brolin as a young Agent K! To me, the scenes with Brolin as K were the best in the film (sorry, Will Smith).
Now, the bad: The story seemed too vague. Without giving anything away, let's just say that there is at least one storyline that confused me and left me flat (it involves Agent O, played by Emma Thompson and Alice Eve). Also? I'm not entirely sure we needed to shell out $14 each to see Men in Black III in IMAX 3D. It's not one of the better 3D movies I've seen. Maybe I'm still reeling from The Avengers' visual awesomeness -- so anything else disappoints.
If you're a fan of the original Men in Black, you'll probably enjoy Men in Black III, but in my opinion, it's not worth spending the extra cash for IMAX 3D. Hope that helps!
